

There are very very few games trying this, but the game industry goes from Candy Crush to GTA 5, and there is some diversity here but it's still centered on very violent actions most of the time. It's about the emotional journey through the life of this character and asks the player how you contribute to tell the story. "But the main activity is not shooting, it's not about violence and loops. Beyond is one of the few exceptions where we try to tell a story where it's fully interactive and playable, we put you in the shoes of the main protagonist of the story and let you make choices. So when someone says, 'Do a part in this', I don't know what it is."ĭavid, do you think the gap is closing between movies and video games in terms of storytelling and what's capable in the medium now?ĭavid: "When you look at the gaming world, you realise that games are still massively about violent actions in loops and not so much about story and emotions. There are role-playing games and that kind of thing. "I've heard there are much more complicated and much more elaborate ones. When I think of video games, probably because of my ignorance, I just think of shooting, kung-fu and all that kind of stuff. "And of course, when this first comes to you, I have a natural prejudice because I don't know anybody that acts in video games.


I had to educate myself a little bit because I didn't really know what the state of things was in the video game world.
